Inside Basement Waterproofing:
Stop Leaking Basements From Inside
Interior Drainage Systems, also referred to as French Drains, is a system that is generally used when:
- Your Leaking or wet basement is constructed from Block or stone.
- A large area of the basement is leaking and is unfinished.
- There are additions without basements around the original basement or side splits, back splits and where water is seeping from the higher level to the lower level, and basements that have been underpinned (lowered from the inside).
Stopping leaks from inside your basement has a price advantage; this method is usually half to one third the price per foot as an exterior solution.
How The Process Works
First, we cut and break out the floor around the perimeter of the basement and to the sump well or drain. Then, We excavate to the underside of the footing usually 6-7" deep. If it is a block basement we drill into the hollow cores of the block to allow the water to flow out. We then install a plastic drainage membrane down along the wall and over the footing. We then install a drainage pipe alongside the footing to the sump pump. Any water that comes in through the wall will be channeled 6" below the basement floor to the weeping tile. This also captures any water coming from under the footing because of Hydro Static pressure due to clogged or nonexistent exterior drainage. Finally, we fill the voids in the trench with clear ¾ " stone and re-cement.
On old stone foundation and block basements it is almost impossible to stop the water from inside. If you patch one spot the water ends up spilling into the next cavity and coming out beside where you patched. Over time interior patches that don’t penetrate the full wall end up failing. This is why the interior drainage system is the only Permanent Interior Solution for block and stone foundations.
This method as with all other methods does not have any effect on the structural integrity of the foundation; water simply does not weaken concrete blocks. Ask The Basement Waterproofing Guy about your specific situation and how we can help with Inside Basement Waterproofing.
